Day 80 - Copiapo to Vina del Mar, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

Quite long ride of over 700 kms (460 miles) where we rode most of the day very close to the Pacific Ocean.
Copiapรณ has a quite a lot of artistic graffiti.
Temperatures swung a lot and we had to add and take out clothes a number of times. Got about 90 minutes of pretty heavy and cold fog.
Went to eat lunch by the sea in La Serena, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ.
Arrived in Viรฑa del Mar already at dark dusk.

Day 79 - Antofagasta to Copiapo, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

There are two road options to do, one is the Ruta 5 through the desert and the other is the Ruta 1 by the coast. When we came north as we wanted to visit the Hand in the Desert we took Ruta 5. So this time we took Ruta 1 and were totally blown over.
We started at sea level at Antofagasta climbed to 6,000+ feet where we rode for an hour, came back down to sea level at Paposo, then climbed again at Taltal back to 2,000+ feet and then came down to sea level at Chaรฑaral.
The views were breathtaking and I said “Wow” many times on these 500+ kms.
In my opinion, this day makes the top 5 for the whole trip, in terms of riding a motorcycle experience and scenery.
Enjoy !

Day 78 - San Pedro de Atacama to Antofagasta, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

Before leaving the San Pedro de Atacama region, still visited the Mirador Piedra Del Coyote in Valle de la Luna. Saw the largest copper mine in the world in the distance. Arrival to Antofagasta is always amazing. We got a room with a view which during sunset was a beautiful bay with Peruvian Pelicans.

Day 77 - San Pedro de Atacama Geysers Vale de la Luna, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

Day 2 in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ.
Another tour with Flamingo Travel. This time it was a half day tour and they came and got us st 5 in the morning so we could get to the geyser field before sunrise and see it rise there.
Temperature was -4C when we got to the fields. The Parque Geotermico Geyser del Tatio is the third largest in the world after Yellowstone and one in Russia.
We also went up to 4,300 meters and I enjoyed a quick dip in the geothermal pool.
We saw lots of animals, which we loved and enjoyed s visit to a local town.

Day 74 - La Serena to Chanaral, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

We rode most of the day in the Atacama desert and one of the highlights was a visit to a well known beach resort town called Bahia Inglesa.
We enjoyed riding in the desert with the ocean just next to us and it reminded us of riding in Namibia ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ‡ฆ.

Day 72 - Santiago to Valparaiso to Vina del Mar La Sebastiana, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

The way from Santiago to Valparaiso was on highway. Lots of traffic as it was a Saturday and both Valparaiso and Viรฑa Del Mar are favorite weekend spots. Quite a lot of vineyards on the way.
Loved the colors and the large inclines in Valparaiso which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here we also visited La Sebastiana and its artistic surroundings. At the end of the day rode by the beaches of Viรฑa Del Mar. It was a day where we probably saw the most diverse scenery. We were even given a front row seat in a forest fire where they needed helicopters to contain the flames.

Day 71 - Santiago, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

“Surprising, cosmopolitan, energetic, sophisticated and worldly, Santiago is a city of syncopated cultural currents, madhouse parties, expansive museums and top-flight restaurants. No wonder 40% of Chileans call the leafy capital city home.
It's a wonderful place for strolling, and each neighborhood has its unique flavor and tone. Head out for the day to take in the museums, grand architecture and pedestrian malls of the Centro, before an afternoon picnic in one of the gorgeous hillside parks that punctuate the city's landscape. Nightlife takes off in the sidewalk eateries, cafes and beer halls of Barrios Brasil, Lastarria and Bellavista, while as you head east to well-heeled neighborhoods like Providencia and Las Condes, you'll find tony restaurants and world-class hotels.
With a growing economy, renovated arts scene and plenty of eccentricity to spare, Santiago is an old-guard city on the cusp of a modern-day renaissance.”

Day 69 - Cunco to Santiago, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

Our second longest ride during our trip, where we did over 450 miles (725 kms) mainly on highway. There were three common things on this trip, interesting bridges, vast areas of different type of farmed goods and lots of different vehicles carrying these farmed goods towards Santiago for consumption by the over 6 million people who live in the capital city.

Day 68 - Cunco National Park Conguillio, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

We visited the beautiful Parque Nacional Conguillรญo, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ with a guide.
Helmut was great and drove us around (more than 200 kms) and showed us the nicest sights.
We walked over 7 miles (11 kms on the day)
It was an amazing experience that we will treasure forever.
The main highlights were Rainbow ๐ŸŒˆ Lake, Llaima Volcano and the beautiful araucarias (or monkey puzzle) trees, but there were many other amazing sights.
“Araucaria araucana (commonly called the monkey puzzle tree, monkey tail tree, piรฑonero, or Chilean pine) is an evergreen tree growing to 1–1.5 m (3–5 ft) in diameter and 30–40 m (100–130 ft) in height. It is native to central and southern Chile, western Argentina. Because of the longevity of this species, it is described as a living fossil. It is also the national tree of Chile. Its conservation status was changed to Endangered by the IUCN in 2013 due to the dwindling population caused by logging, forest fires, and grazing.”

Day 67 - San Martin de los Andes, Argentina ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ท to Cunco, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

Rode on the Parque Nacional Villarica with beautiful views of the Lanin Volcano and saw many araucaria trees. Crossed the border from Argentina ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ท to Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ at Paso Mamuil Malal. Made a wrong turn and did some difficult ripio to get to our destination which was a cabin in a rural setting.

Day 66 - San Carlos Bariloche to Vila Angostura to San Martin de los Andes, Argentina ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ท

Today was a short ride, 190 Kms (115 miles) that took us nearly six hours to do as we kept stopping to look at the scenery and take pictures.
We saw many motorcyclists as there was an Harley Davidson event and there was the Round One of the Motocross World Championship in La Angostura.
This is known as the Camino de los Siete Lagos (Road of the Seven Lakes) which crosses two national parks (Nahuel Huapi and Lanin). There are many lakes in the area but the seven most well known and which give the name to this road are:
Correntoso, Espejo, Escondido, Machรณnico, Falkner, Villarino and Lรกcar.
Google says it should take one hour and forty-five minutes. It took us much longer and we loved every minute of it. And yes, we did eat chocolate in some of them.

Day 65 - Futaleufu, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ to San Carlos Bariloche, Argentina ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ท

We traveled again with Joerg and Rainer and the first 10kms to get to the border were very beautiful. Futaleufรบ is indeed a very special place. We met a number of foreigners who live here.. came a long time ago, fell in love with the place and settled here...
A Brazilian owns the hostel where we stayed, italians own the restaurant we had lunch yesterday when we arrived, and an American from Austin owns the restaurant we had dinner last night.

Day 64 - Puyuhuapi to Futaleufu, Chile ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

Some more kms on the Carretera Austral with some ripio and a very nice asphalt road as we approached Futaleufรบ.
We rode with Joerg and Rainer and it was fun to have company.
They like to travel at a slower pace which we enjoyed. They also like to stop for coffee and chocolate which we will, from now on, copy paste.
